Our clients, a
composer & a musician, required a conversion of their new
penthouse. Primarily, they were concerned with
making the small sleeping loft into a living & working
area. We expanded the loft into a viable second floor,
with bedroom, library, & studio. Many architectural
elements, such as the iron railing & the built-in studio, we designed, made, &
installed. |
|
|
A partial view of the second floor from the first floor of the
apartment. The bedroom is behind the library & leads
onto the rooftop deck. |
 |
|
. |
Our plans for the stairwell included recessed shelves to
display the couple's pottery & art collection. |
 |
|
|
 |
We designed & made the built-in studio, with an L-shaped
desk big enough to accommodate two computers & numerous
peripherals, including the composer's keyboard. Two
large, spacious aluminum drawers fill one side.
Electrical outlets are integrated into the frame of the desk.
A shelf & Plexiglas-fronted cabinets fill the spaces above &
below. |
|
|
From the deck, an iron grill protects the window in the
bedroom.
Whimsical elements were suggested by the clients.
